With the theme “Timeless Music into the Future”, the 22nd Beijing Music Festival (BMF) will take place from the 4th to 28th of October. This year’s BMF boasts 16 diverse and reasonably priced events, with a total 王全安-从深夜到拂晓，你想躺在长城脚下听音乐吗？of 22 performances for audiences to enjoy- from opera and orchestra, to VR experiences.
The BMF has invited two “star sopranos”, Edita Gruberova and Renee Fleming, to make appearances at the Grand Opening and Closing Gala. 72-year-old Edita Gruberova is considered one of the greatest coloratura sopranos of the last century, and this wi女人偷人ll be her first ever performance in Beijing. American soprano Renee Fleming, winner of many Gramophone Classical Music Awards and Grammy Awards, will mark the end of the BMF with her performance.
The festival seeks out musicians and performers who redefine classical music. One of the highlights this year is Chasing Dreams in a Night on the Great Wall. On October 4th, German composer Max Richter and his team will perform 8 hours of pian王全安-从深夜到拂晓，你想躺在长城脚下听音乐吗？o solos, String Quintets, and Soprano singing, from midnight till dawn. Audience members can lie down on one of hundreds of mattresses on the Shui Guan Great Wall and enjoy a memorable night of music under a clear sky.
Yu Long is the Chairman of the BMF’s Artistic Commiittee. He said “By attending this event on the Great Wall, the audience becomes part of an interesting piece of performance art.”
Promoting the work of Asian composers to Chinese audiences is a major task for this year’s BMF. Angle’s Bone, a Pulitzer’s Award Winning opera composed by Chinese American composer Du Yun, will have its mainland China’s debute in the Poly Theater.
Eight, a “mixed reality” musical theater work composed by Michael van der Aa, will be presented from Oct 10th to 27th. It’s a fusion of music, theater, visual art, and virtual reality. Over 18 days, more than 900 sessions will be performed in Tai Koo Li.
Zou Shuang, the Artistic Director of the BMF says:
“We treat the music festival as a cultural identity event as well as an expression of innovation. We intend to create a dialogure between contemporary Chinese musicians and contenmporary musicians from the rest of the world. As a result, we invited the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in this year and the next two years. We will also introduce rarely heard pieces to lead up to the third concert which contains the work of those Chinese composers including Du Yun. We want to show people how we come to contemporary work. We want to tell the w王全安-从深夜到拂晓，你想躺在长城脚下听音乐吗？orld that we are doing new things, and we look forward to connecting music with our life.”
